The formation of the council was agreed upon, following extensive talks held in Damascus between Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.
Its members include representatives from the energy, health, industry, trade, transport, agriculture, water, information technology and telecommunications, education, and tourism sectors, the Ministry stated in a joint press release issued Friday.
Upon receiving the head of Jordanian diplomacy, Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa expressed his country’s willingness to develop relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in several fields.
Minister Al-Shaibani emphasized the stability interconnection between the two neighboring nations and expressed Damascus’ commitment to Jordan’s security and strengthening cooperation in security areas, including fighting terrorism in all its forms and fighting drug and arms smuggling.
The Jordanian foreign minister, in turn, affirmed Amman’s full support for Syria’s reconstruction process and this nation’s unity, stability, and sovereignty.
Safadi stressed the need to stop the current Israeli airstrikes on Syria, considering them a blatant violation of international law, a clear breach of the 1974 Syria-Israel Disengagement Agreement, and an escalation that will lead to further tension and conflict in the region.
