In a statement, the agency in charge emphasized that it provided assistance to these individuals, who arrived on three flights from Alexandria (Virginia), Louisiana, and Houston (Texas), in the northern country.
Of the total number of returned nationals, the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) added, 318 were men, 21 women, five children and adolescents (NNA), and three family units.
Between January 1 and April 16, 2025, 9,403 Guatemalans arrived from the United States to the land of the quetzal, the text elaborated.
Of these, he specified, 7,430 are men, 1,533 are women, 440 are children and adolescents, and 305 are family units. To date, he noted, we have received 104 flights, 15 of which were extraordinary (on military aircraft).
Data from the IGM here revealed that in the first 15 weeks of 2025 (from January 1 to the 9th of this month), 8,786 Guatemalans returned from the United States, a 58 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
However, in light of US President Donald Trump’s announcements of mass deportations, the local administration presented the Return Home Plan (Plan Retorno al Hogar) in early February, an initiative to address the phenomenon. A review by the New York Times at the end of last month ruled out an increase in returns this year compared to those of the previous US administration, while acknowledging new and unusual measures.
During 2024, the IGM assisted 76,768 deportees, 66,016 by air from the United States and Mexico. Likewise, 10,752 arrived by land from this neighboring nation.
