The Uruguayan Army informed this on its social networks and said the officer presented himself in the morning at the infirmary of the ‘’Always Present’’ base, suffering from stomach discomfort.
Alvarez was taken urgently to the Indio Level III Hospital after an electrocardiogram. There he suffered a cardiac arrest and died.
The corporal was one of those wounded in the attack on January 25 against one of the Uruguayan bases in the city of Goma, following an escalation of violence in the armed conflict between the Congolese forces and the rebel group M23.
The soldier Rodolfo Alvarez died in that aggression.
