Sudanese paramilitaries announce parallel government on anniversary

Khartoum, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) The so-called Sudanese Rapid Support Forces announced on this second anniversary of the beginning of the war, the formation of a parallel government, according to local media here.

Now the head of the paramilitary, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, said that the new authorities will replace the government formed by the military of the Army and made clear his decision to continue the civil war in the African country.

Dagalo also urged the African Union (AU) to recognize such a “Government” which he called “Peace and Unity” and said it will act throughout Sudan.

Political observers point out that this new attempt by the paramilitary leader, accused of innumerable war crimes, comes in the midst of consecutive military defeats suffered by his troops during the last weeks, in the face of the Army offensive on Khartoum and other important cities.

The antecedents of this parallel government date back to last February, when the RSF signed a document in Nairobi, Kenya, proclaiming its formation.

In the midst of this situation, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) representative in Sudan, Sheldon Yett, described a deeply alarming situation in Khartoum and other cities newly controlled by the army, after two years of siege by the RSF.

However, paramilitaries still control large territories, particularly in Darfur, where the UN reported more than 300 civilian deaths last weekend in a new wave of violence, local sources said Wednesday.
