Significance of proclamation of socialism in Cuba highlighted

Havana, April 16 (Prensa Latina) Senior Cuban government officials today highlighted the historical meaning of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Revolution on April 16, 1961, by its historical leader Fidel Castro.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recalled that the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) was also founded in that context, “a vanguard organization, the leading political force of society and the State,” he wrote on that social network.

Sixty-four years after the political orientation of the Cuban project was defined, “we reaffirm our commitment to the defense of the Homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism, in the face of imperialist threats, pressures, and aggression that seek to destroy our humanist work,” asserted Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.

Earlier, President Miguel Díaz-Canel, along with the Secretary of Organization of the PCC, Roberto Morales, led a political and cultural event commemorating the day, in which representatives from various sectors showcased the Revolution’s achievements and their commitment to continuing its path.

At the intersection of 23rd and 12th Streets in the Vedado residential area, hundreds of Havana residents recalled the events of that day in 1961, which paved the way for the construction of a social process based on humanism and equity.

Liván Izquierdo, the first secretary of the PCC in Havana, recounted the event and highlighted the challenges the island faces against the hostility of successive governments in states that seek to destroy this altruistic work.

The proclamation of socialism here took place at the funeral services for the victims of the US bombings of the air bases in Ciudad Libertad, San Antonio de los Baños, and Santiago de Cuba.

During the funeral of the fallen, the historic leader, Fidel Castro, reaffirmed before the world the socialist character of the nascent Cuban Revolution.

On that occasion, he stated, “…and the fact we have carried out a socialist revolution right under the noses of the United States, and that we defend that socialist revolution with those rifles, and that we defend that socialist revolution with the courage with which our anti-aircraft gunners riddled the attacking planes with bullets yesterday.”
