“Today we are accompanying President Al-Sharaa on his first visit to the country that has stood by Syrians from day one and has never abandoned them,” Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani wrote on X.
Al-Sharaa’s visit is the sixth since he took office. He previously visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Jordan, and Egypt. In addition to its political support for the current government in Damascus, Qatar sent an airlift of humanitarian aid and provided gas free of charge for operating power plants.
In late January, Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, paid a visit to Syria, considered the first by a head of State after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in early December 2024.
