Initially, $13 million will be invested to provide the population with better access to clean and reliable water.
Drew signed a loan agreement for the aforementioned amount with the International Cooperation and Development Fund and the Republic of China.
This loan will help complete the Basseterre desalination plant, currently under construction, which will benefit citizens.
“This facility aims to convert seawater into safe drinking water, which will reduce the country’s dependence on rainfall and groundwater due to climate change and overuse,” the Associated Times website stated.
The initiative—the source emphasizes—is part of the Sustainable Island States Agenda to develop climate resilience, modernize infrastructure, and improve lives with smart technological advances. jrr/arm/mem/jo
