Organized by the Djiboutian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research from April 14-16, this event convened 400 participants, including researchers, decision-makers, institutions, and civil society leaders to discuss major climate issues in East Africa and beyond.
During the opening on Monday, President Ismail Omar Guelleh stressed in particular the need for the international community to sign the principle of efficient cooperation and mutual assistance.
Guelleh underscored that there will be no viable future without environmental stability, and no shared prosperity without climate justice.
He urged access to an integrated environment of cooperation and mutual support globally so as to avoid Africa from suffering indefinitely the adverse consequences of global warming, .
Omar Guelleh said, “I am convinced that Africa can become a central global player in energy transition and will require a fair international partnership based on trust, knowledge sharing, access to finance, and a genuine recognition of Africa’s contribution to the global effort.”
The conference aims to share knowledge and innovations in climate and environmental research, strengthen collaborations among several stakeholders, and raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities related to climate change and environmental risks.
