Several prominent figures are expected to participate in the party’s primaries, including former Employment and Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo, former PPP leader Han Dong-hoon, and lawmakers Ahn Cheol-soo and Na Kyung-won, who have already officially announced their candidacies.
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo also officially declared his candidacy for the conservative and currently ruling party, marking his third bid for the South Korean presidency.
The PPP election committee will review the applications and is scheduled to announce on Wednesday the list of candidates who will advance to the first round of the primaries; the party will confirm its representative on May 3.
