According to data from the National Electoral Council (CNE), Noboa, son of Ecuador’s richest man and leader of the ruling National Democratic Action (ADN) movement, won the elections with more than 10 points of advantage over Gonzalez.
With 92,66% of the valid ballots counted, Noboa has 55.83 percent of the votes, against 44,17% obtained by his contender. Neither polls nor analysts expected such a result; forecasts indicated a close definition.
Given these unexpected numbers, Gonzalez did not recognize the results presented and affirmed that fraud was committed in the vote registration to benefit Noboa against the people’s will.
“The CR has always recognized a defeat when the polls have shown it”, but “today we do not recognize the results”, “I refuse to believe that there is a nation that prefers lies before the truth. We are going to ask for a recount and for the polls to be opened”, the candidate affirmed.
