Local TV channels showed in nightly reports images of Bukele’s arrival this Saturday at Andrews Military Base. According to a statement from the Salvadoran Presidency, Bukele’s stay here seeks to “strengthen the historic alliance” that he has with Trump “in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime”.
The Trump-Bukele meeting will be held on April 14 at the White House. There are those who wonder if the case of Kilmar Abrego García, a Salvadoran legal resident in Maryland, deported due to an “administrative error” and oversight”, as admitted by the US government, will be on the table.
The Trump administration says Abrego Garcia is now under El Salvador’s jurisdiction and did not just respond to the Supreme Court’s request that ruled to facilitate his return. The case generated great outrage and is at the center of media attention.
Bukele has become the best ally of the United States in Trump’s plan of deportations within his aggressive immigration policy, as he agreed to receive flights of deportees who are allegedly linked to criminal organizations (gangs).
