An Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement expressed that the comments were made during a telephone conversation with the UN humanitarian coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag.
The two officials discussed the humanitarian situation in the coastal enclave, which is suffering a severe crisis due to the conflict.
According to the text, Abdelatty noted his deep concern over the Israeli attacks against institutions and humanitarian workers in that Palestinian region.
In this regard, he condemned the recent decision of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to close six schools in the occupied East Jerusalem area, administered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Unrwa).
The head of Egyptian diplomacy considered the move a flagrant violation of international law while defending Unrwa’s role in supporting Palestinian refugees.
