So far, Witkoff has met with Putin twice, on February 11th and March 13th, and if a third meeting were to materialize, it would take place the day after the second round of consultations between Russian and US diplomats in Istanbul, Turkey, Peskov recalled.
The meeting would follow a prisoner exchange in which dancer Ksenia Karelina, a dual Russian-US citizen who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for high treason, was exchanged for Russian citizen Artur Petrov, imprisoned in the United States for allegedly violating export restrictions.
According to CNN, Witkoff negotiated the exchange with Putin, which took place in Abu Dhabi with the mediation of Emirati authorities.
This Friday, the online newspaper Axios reported that Witkoff could meet with the Russian leader this Friday, having arrived in Russia, citing a source with knowledge of the matter and data from the flight-tracking website FlightRadar.
