In a statement, they noted that the Armed Forces also committed systematic human rights violations and specifically drew the attention of the international and national community to the occupation of Walikale, in North Kivu province.
The AFC/M23 questioned the capture of that city by the DRC Army, which, according to the statement, was carried out jointly with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, the Mai Mai and Wazalendo militias, and the Burundian Armed Forces.
For the rebels, the action is not only a violation of the ceasefire, but also betrays the armed group’s “goodwill gesture” when it decided to reposition its forces in and around that city.
The statement denounced several attacks against densely populated areas in Walikale, Masisi, and Walungo, as well as against M23 positions.
