The Chinese Customs statement specified that if Washington further raises tariffs on goods from China, Beijing will no longer pay attention to it.
The Chinese government thus responds to the latest escalation by the United States after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs of 125 percent on China, which are in addition to the 20 percent that China already had.
“There are no winners in a trade war, protectionism has no future,” the Chinese government said. But it also stressed that if Washington insists on its hegemonistic approach and wants to wage a tariff war “or any kind,” China “will go along with it to the end.”
According to President Xi Jinping it is normal for there to be differences between two different systems, however, he pointed out there is a high degree of complementarity between the two economies and that the successes of one should not be seen as a threat to the other.
The Ministry of Commerce of China assured that the door is open to dialogue, but if the United States really wants to negotiate, it must do so on the basis of respect and equal treatment.
