“If the United States truly wants to negotiate, it must adopt a stance of equality, respect, and reciprocity,” stressed spokesperson Lin Jian, who noted that pressure, threats, and blackmail are not the correct way to deal with Beijing.
The official explained that China’s countermeasures seek to defend its sovereignty, security, and development, and to protect international justice, the multilateral trading system, and the common interests of the global community. “If the United States ignores the interests of both countries and the international community and persists in a tariff or trade war, China will accompany it to the end,” he emphasized.
According to the spokesman, Washington’s unilateralism and abuse of power lack support and are destined to fail. He reiterated that a trade or tariff war has no winners and that China does not want confrontation but, in any case, it is not afraid of fighting. “The United States is using tariffs to exert pressure and obtain selfish benefits, which harms the legitimate rights of all countries,” he stated.
“The US side has blindly exerted maximum pressure on China, which has seriously deteriorated the social foundation and public opinion environment of bilateral relations and seriously interfered with exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields,” Lin said.
