Yiwei noted that the Sihanoukville port, turned into a transportation and industry hub, exemplifies the BRI’s impact on trade and investment, positioning Cambodia as a key player in Southeast Asia.
“The BRI is based on five pillars: strategic collaboration, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people ties,” he explained.
Thong Mengdavid, a geopolitical analyst at the Institute for International Studies and Public Policy, emphasized the importance of the “shared future community” between China and Cambodia.
Noting that the relationship goes beyond economic cooperation, he pointed out that “key BRI projects, such as roads, ports and energy infrastructure, have improved Cambodia’s connectivity and economic prospects.”
Further integration in industrial production, digital trade and financial cooperation is expected to boost growth and job creation between the two nations.
