Dominican President mourns deaths after discotheque roof collapse

Santo Domingo, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Dominican President Luis Abinader lamented the tragedy that took place today at the Jet Set discotheque in this capital, where 13 deaths have been reported so far after the partial collapse of the roof of this facility.

“We have followed the case minute by minute since it happened.”

All relief agencies have provided the necessary assistance and are working tirelessly in the rescue efforts,’ said the president on social networks.

The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, confirmed the death of 13 people after the collapse of the discotheque’s roof early Tuesday morning.

Mendez pointed out that the search and rescue efforts are continuing with the support of several institutions, including the National Emergency and Security System 911, the Civil Defense and the National District Fire Department.

He explained that about 90 people were taken to health centers in ambulances, some of them with more than one patient due to the magnitude of the event.

Diario Libre reported that among those injured was the merengue singer Rubby Perez, who was giving a live show at the time of the tragedy.
