A press release from the Palacio de las Garzas (Herons’ Palace), the seat of the Executive Branch, states that Orsi will be received by President Jose Raul Mulino, in the first stop of an agenda that also includes a meeting with entrepreneurs, particularly from the rice sector.
Regarding this stay, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin told reporters that the meeting will open a commercial negotiation in Panama.
“We hope that from this first meeting between the two presidents a decision of common agreement will emerge to initiate potential future agreements in the commercial area”, Lubetkin said.
Uruguay will seek to maintain its firm stance of opening new markets to boost its economy, independently of its participation as a member of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), while also aspiring to the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Orsi will travel to Tegucigalpa to participate in the Summit of Heads of State of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in which Honduras will hand over the pro tempore presidency of the bloc to Colombia.
