Titled “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” this campaign aims to encourage governments and the health community to intensify efforts to eliminate preventable maternal and newborn deaths while prioritizing the long-term health and well-being of women.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners, who are behind this campaign, will provide information to support healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, and improved postnatal care.
According to data from the WHO, in 2020, one maternal death occurred every hour in the Latin American and Caribbean region, reversing two decades of progress in maternal health indicators in the area. Recent estimates indicate that nearly 300,000 women die each year due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. Additionally, more than two million babies die within their first month of life, and millions more are stillborn.
