According to various sources, the president’s arrival in Cairo is scheduled for the evening, amid growing concern over the escalating Israeli aggression against Gaza, where around 50,000 people have lost their lives, the vast majority of them civilians, since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel and took more than 200 hostages.
The day before, Macron announced on X that on Monday he will participate in a trilateral meeting with the host president, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, with the urgent response to the crisis in the Palestinian territory as the focus.
The French leader has established as his position the demand for a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas, the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the establishment of a political horizon leading to a two-state solution.
Macron also plans to visit the city of El Arish, located just 50 kilometers from Gaza, on Tuesday during his visit to Egypt.
According to Paris, the president will emphasize the importance of supporting humanitarian actors and ensuring compliance with the truce in a conflict that has the Palestinian population on the brink of famine and medical assistance reduced to a minimum.
The official meeting with El-Sisi is scheduled for tomorrow.
