According to the statement, Washington’s justification based on an alleged trade imbalance ignores the results of decades of multilateral negotiations that have established a beneficial balance in international trade. The US position, based on a subjective and unilateral assessment, does not conform to global standards and harms the legitimate rights and interests of its trading partners, it added.
Beijing noted that historically, increasing tariffs has not resolved the United States’ domestic problems but has affected its own interests while jeopardizing global economic development and the stability of production and supply chains.
“A trade war has no winners, and protectionism has no future,” the Ministry of Commerce stated.
China urged the United States to immediately cancel the tariffs and resolve its differences with its trading partners through equal dialogue.
Several nations have already expressed their strong opposition to this measure, calling it a unilateral and abusive practice.
