Deputies of New Ideas introduced the proposal that calls for reforms to the internal regulations of the Legislative Assembly so that deputies do not abstain from voting. In their initiative, delegates Ernesto Castro, Suecy Callejas, Elisa Rosales and Alexia Rivas, all legislators who are members of the board of directors of the Assembly, propose that members of the forum only vote in favor or against, and that abstention be eliminated, for greater legal certainty.
The plan to avoid abstention votes of the deputies is being studied by the Political Commission, which is summoned to meet on Monday, April 7, at 14:00 local time, the same day on which it will interview four candidates for Attorney General.
By regulation, the deputies may vote by a show of hands or by electronic means, and also in a nominal and public manner, by voice, after naming each deputy.
The same text establishes as rights of the deputies to participate with voice and vote in the plenary sessions, as well as to vote according to their individual will and without any coercion.
Abstention is a voluntary option to participate in a parliamentary vote without expressing oneself in favor or against.
The initiative, considering that New Ideas controls 54 of the 60 votes of the Assembly, must be accepted regardless of the considerations that may be issued by the opponents. ef/arm/ro/lb
