The European Commission stated that the EU is ready to engage with the new government to help tackle the immense challenges ahead.
It noted that the new government should fulfill the aspirations of all Syrians, adding that the EU will stand by the Syrian people, and the new government’s commitments to a peaceful and inclusive transition will be respected.
Reiterating its support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned transition process, the 27-member bloc said it is essential that all external actors fully respect Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
It also condemned any attempt to undermine its stability and prospects for a peaceful and inclusive political transition.
Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced the new government in Damascus on Saturday, March 29, appointing 23 ministers, including one woman.
