State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian noted that the maneuvers represent a countermeasure to the Taiwanese president’s attempts to promote an independence agenda, as well as a warning to those seeking to erode peace in the Strait. She also emphasized that such actions are necessary to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokeswoman emphasized that Lai Ching-te has maintained an unyielding stance in favor of division by calling mainland China a “foreign hostile force” and presenting alleged strategies to challenge Beijing.
According to Zhu, these actions have exacerbated tensions in the Strait and hindered exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. “The separatism of ‘independent Taiwan’ is tantamount to war,” the spokeswoman stated, adding that any attempt to push this agenda endangers the Taiwanese people, and reiterated that China’s determination to resolve the Taiwan question and complete national reunification is unwavering.
As stated by Zhu, Beijing’s response measures are directed exclusively against separatist activities, not the Taiwanese people. She urged Taiwanese compatriots to stand on the right side of history, act as dignified Chinese, and join efforts to oppose separatism and external interference.
Mainland China recently reiterated that “peaceful reunification and one country, two systems” remains the basic policy for resolving the Taiwan question, considered the best option for achieving reunification.
Chen Binhua, director of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, criticized local authorities on the island for exaggerating Beijing’s so-called “military threat” while ignoring domestic demands for well-being.
