The incident occurred the day before in the city of Gombe, in the east of the country, when those attending rushed to leave the place after the end of the prayer.
According to police sources, as a result, 22 people were injured and were taken to several hospitals.
The governor of Gombe state, Inuwa Yahaya, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and to those affected by the tragedy.
Such accidents are common in Nigeria. Last December, nearly 40 people died after stampedes during food drives in the Nigerian states of Anambra and Abuja.
Meanwhile, social organizations made appeals to the authorities to adopt the necessary safety measures at events and humanitarian acts in order to avoid new outrages and deaths of human beings.
