The WFP described as brutal the violence in Haiti led by gangs, which caused record levels of hunger and forced displacement.
Half of the population is facing extreme hunger and 25 percent of children under five years of age are stunted, according to the international organization, quoted by the Haiti Libre digital newspaper.
At the end of 2024, the same source reported that one in six infants in Haiti was on the verge of a situation similar to famine, due to the wave of violence that the Caribbean nation is experiencing.
The internal conflict is making it difficult to deliver food, which in turn has increased in price on the market, leaving many families without access to food and drinking water.
Hunger levels have skyrocketed, the newspaper underlines.
It recalled that WFP Director Jean-Martin Bauer pointed out that this phenomenon is also related to the persistent violence in gang-controlled areas that prevent the population from acquiring the necessary food.
