Former Argentine president’s defense filed an appeal in Supreme Court

Buenos Aires, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) The lawyers of former Argentine President Cristina Fernández filed today a complaint before the Supreme Court and requested the recusal of Judge Manuel José García, appointed member of that court through a decree of President Javier Milei.

Through her profile on the social network X, Fernández explained that her defense challenged before that instance the decision of the Criminal Cassation Court to reject an extraordinary appeal filed against her ruling, without answering or addressing the violations to the constitutional rights and guarantees raised.

Neither did they respond on the manifest arbitrariness of the sentence, nor the concrete and reasoned refutation of each of the “grounds” drawn in the previous instances, she indicated.

In 2022, the former president was sentenced to six years in prison and disqualification from holding public office, which she considered part of a judicial persecution.

While social organizations rejected the actions against her, the Federal Oral Court 2 sentenced the also former head of the Senate for alleged fraudulent administration to the detriment of public administration.

Said verdict corresponds to the so-called Causa Vialidad for alleged irregularities in the awarding of 51 works in the province of Santa Cruz between 2003-2015, facts that the former president rejected and denied during three years of hearings.
