Israel raids new areas of Mount Hermon in Syria

Damascus, Mar 30 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli army announced today that its forces seized new positions on Mount Hermon, the highest peak in Syria with 2,814 meters high, and located in the southwestern province of Quneitra.

According to media reports here, Zionist army spokesman Avichay Adraee revealed that the Mountain Brigade soldiers entered observation posts abandoned by the former Syrian army on Hermon summit.

During the operation, military infrastructure, including war equipment and an explosive device weighing tens of kilograms were detected, and the aim is to neutralize threats and confiscate enemy equipment in the area, the spokesman said.

Since Bashar al-Assad’s government was overthrown on December 8 last year, the Israeli occupation army has stepped up its operations in Syrian territory, targeting numerous areas, including civilian residences.

Last Tuesday, six civilians were killed in the village of Koya in western Deraa province as a result of shelling by Israeli tanks.

The attack followed an Israeli invasion of the village plains, which led to a clash with residents who rejected it.

Last Friday, Syrian interim President Ahmad Al-Shara, warned of the significant security challenges Syria is facing on its southern border, and considered the Israeli presence in Syria a constant threat to regional peace and security.
