The document was signed in the presence of the Ministers of Defense of Saudi Arabia, Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz; of Syria, Marhaf Abu Qasra; of Lebanon, Michel Menassa; and other senior military officers from the three countries.
The treaty stipulates the activation of coordination mechanisms between both parties to resolve military and security challenges, particularly those related to their shared border, and contribute to improving security and stability between the two countries.
Damascus and Beirut emphasized the strategic importance of demarcating the borders between the two countries and forming legal and specialized committees for cooperation in various areas.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), it was also agreed to hold a follow-up meeting in Saudi Arabia in the coming soon.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the defense ministers of the two countries expressed their gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the meeting and their satisfaction with the understandings reached. Riyadh reiterated its support for all efforts to achieve stability in Syria and Lebanon, thus contributing to preserving security throughout the region.
This agreement was reached after violent clashes and exchanges of tube and rocket artillery fire that took place on March 14th, 15th, and 16th in the Syrian-Lebanese border areas. Syrian military sources confirmed the deaths of 13 soldiers and two civilians on the Syrian side, while Lebanon reported seven dead and 52 wounded, in addition to a wave of displacement toward its territory.
