Al-Shaibani welcomed Beijing’s position of rejecting the repeated Israeli violations in the south of this Levantine nation and expressed determination to work to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

The Chinese diplomat expressed respect for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and non-interference in its internal affairs.

Also, he reiterated support for Syria during the transition phase to successfully overcome the current situation.

The first official contact between China and the new Syrian authority after the overthrow of the government of Bashar Al-Assad was on February 22 last when the Syrian interim president Ahmad Al-Shara received the ambassador in Damascus.

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had said that the situation in Syria had suddenly changed and that his country would continue to support the Syrian people.

Beijing will prevent terrorist forces from seizing the opportunity to create chaos and help Syria defend its sovereignty and restore stability, the chief diplomat said. He stressed the importance of the future Syria resolutely opposing all forms of terrorism and extremist forces.
