Burhan reportedly moved immediately to the Presidential Palace where he declared that the capital had been liberated from paramilitary troops.
The Khartoum air terminal had been in the hands of the paramilitaries since the beginning of the war almost two years ago.
On Thursday, the army showed a map showing the areas under control of the government, including Khartoum, and indicated that the end of the rebellion of the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was near and the reconstruction of the country and development would begin.
Meanwhile, the United Nations again called for an end to violence on both sides and for Sudan’s political leaders to prioritize the welfare of their people. The military offensive, launched in recent weeks, has made progress in and around Khartoum, including the nearby towns of Omdurman and Khartoum North.
