At the end of his official visit to Japan, Lula stated at a press briefing in this capital that the criterion of reciprocity should be applied and similar measures should be decreed for US products.
Trump is president only of the United States, not the world, Lula said after unveiling that the new tariff provisions decreed by the US president will take effect next week.
He also criticized Trump’s lack of vision, assuring that the 25-percent tax on cars purchased from Japan, a country with a powerful automobile industry, will only lead to higher prices for US consumers and a rise in inflation.
According to the Brazilian head of State, no consequence of this imposition could be good for the economy and, on the contrary, it endangers multilateralism.
