India’s IT sector has a leading position globally and has been a significant contributor to the growth of exports and the creation of employment in the country, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada said in a written statement to the Lok Sabha (Lower House) of Parliament.
Prasada mentioned that, among the government’s initiatives to develop that industry are the setting up of 67 Software Technology Park (STPI) centers, and the facilitation of foreign direct investment (FDI) and business promotion schemes through outsourcing for business operations to external suppliers that benefit small cities.
The minister also highlighted the 2019 national software product policy, several training programs through 55 centers of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), and the promotion of the ecosystem of the so-called startups through the Technology Incubation Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE).
Finally, he noted that the programs of the Ministry in charge for products’ innovation and growth, the specific centers of excellence for, among other aspects, supporting new generations of innovative startups and India’s mission for developing artificial intelligence, also contributed to strengthening the IT industry.
Prasada underscored that these initiatives have been crucial for the growth of the IT industry.
