Croatia rules out participation in EU peacekeeping mission in Ukraine

Zagreb, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) Croatian President Zoran Milanovic ruled out on Thursday his country's participation in a possible deployment of a European military contingent in Ukraine and described such an initiative as dangerous due to the lack of Russian consent.

During a visit to Montenegro, Milanovic stated that his nation would not take part in such a mission, as he considers it dangerous and irresponsible, the Croatian president’s office stated.

The head of State underscored that a Croatian soldier will not go to Ukraine under any arrangement, as a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine will never be implemented, with or without Croatia, because the basic conditions for this have not been met.

Milanovic talked about the conclusion of a peace agreement and Russia’s consent as necessary prerequisites for deploying a European Union (EU) contingent in Ukraine.

Croatia is a parliamentary republic, so the head of State’s powers are limited.
