Carney, who yesterday called these auto tariffs a ‘direct attack’ on his country, stressed that such taxes ‘will hurt’ Canadians.
However, the Prime Minister stressed, ‘they will not destroy us´.
We will get through this crisis together, because, in Kitchener-Waterloo and across the country, we are #CanadaStrong’.
It’s time to take care of ourselves and our workers and stand up for Canada, Carney emphasized.
Yesterday, Trump announced from the White House that all cars not made in the U.S. will receive a 25 percent tariff.
“We started with a 2.5 percent base, which is where we were, and we’re going up to 25 percent,” Trump told reporters before signing an executive order in the Oval Office of the executive mansion.
These tariffs will be in addition to any existing tariffs that are in place, stressed the Republican leader, who suggested that even if vehicles contain U.S.-made parts, but are not assembled in the United States, they could be subject to tariffs.
