ALBA-TCP warns of US obsession against the peoples of the region

Caracas, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) ALBA-TCP (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement) warned that the wave of constant threats and attacks against the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean has become an obsession for the current US administration.

ALBA-TCP denounced In a statement that this time the US “intends to attack the Petrocaribe agreement,” the oil alliance created by Commander Hugo Chávez in 2005.

The bloc, made up of 10 countries in the region, stated that this is one of “the most supportive and useful tools of South-South cooperation, particularly for the Caribbean countries,” and emphasized that no one in the region dares to question the comprehensive social impact that Petrocaribe generated “by guaranteeing the supply of fuel to more than 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The Alliance stated that the mechanism has become a humanitarian barrier to the ups and downs and crises of the markets of the Global North. “Attempting to discredit Petrocaribe is perhaps the most brazen and erratic slander the US government could issue, given the reality that millions of human beings have benefited from the kindness and generosity of this unprecedented energy solidarity initiative.”

The ALBA-TCP member states categorically repudiated this new pretext for attempting to promote, based on a series of falsehoods, “a process of fissures and destabilization in a region proclaimed as a Zone of Peace, which develops relations of mutual respect, unity, and sincere cooperation.”

The bloc demanded the immediate and unconditional lifting of all unilateral coercive measures against Petrocaribe, “an initiative that has been one of the main drivers of unity throughout the region,” he stated.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil indicated on Monday that the U.S. State Department and his government “are upset that Petrocaribe is still alive”, and affirmed that “it bothers that in the Caribbean they know that U.S. ‘aid’ is always associated with subordination”.”
