PT-Brazil supports criminal action against Bolsonaro and allies

Brasilia, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Leaders of Brazil's ruling Workers' Party (PT) are demanding that the complaint against former president Jair Bolsonaro and seven allies for the attempted coup in 2022 be accepted by the Supreme Court.

The first chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) will decide this Wednesday whether Bolsonaro and the others involved in the violent plot will become defendants.

Such analysis will resume at 09:30, local time, when the five ministers that make up that court will move on to the part that deals with the substantive issues, that is, assessing whether the defendants will be prosecuted.

In this case for the crimes of armed criminal organization, attempt to violently abolish the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, damage qualified by violence and serious threat and deterioration of declared patrimony. The combined sentences exceed 30 years of imprisonment.

Quoted by the PT website, Humberto Costa, president of the political organization, the national secretary of Communication of the PT, Jilmar Tatto, and the jurist Pedro Serrano were unanimous in describing the process as a historic milestone for the defense of the Rule of Law in Brazil.

For them, the solidity of the evidence, the seriousness of the crimes and the democratic nature of the institutional response are elements that make the trial a watershed in the fight against authoritarianism and in favor of justice.
