Macron receives Zelensky after announcement of Black Sea truce

Paris, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will receive today at the Elysee Palace his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, after the truce agreement favored by the United States in the Black Sea between Kiev and Russia.

According to official sources, the meeting of the two leaders will take place at the end of the day, as a prelude to a meeting that Macron will organize tomorrow in this capital with the countries that maintain support to Ukraine in the conflict and will seek guarantee security with an eventual deployment of troops, when peace is signed with Moscow.

The day before, the White House announced after separate negotiations with the parties in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, a truce in the Black Sea, and the commitment of the opposing nations to take measures to implement the already agreed moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure and to continue working in the search for a lasting peace.

The Elysée reacted by considering that the agreement is moving in the right direction, but is insufficient to achieve a cessation of hostilities in the war which entered its fourth year on February 24.

It underlined that a moratorium on the attack on the energy infrastructure and initiatives in the Black Sea go in the right direction, however, they do not represent a solid cease-fire, much less a peace agreement.
