The government representatives said the Senate session held last week on the legality of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest and his transfer to The Hague shows that the upper house continues to work.
House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan explained that the panel postponed the filing of the subpoena request because senators previously indicated that they would not be able to work during the Congress recess.
Libanan and his fellow prosecutor, Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez, filed before the Senate the ‘Entry with Motion to Issue Subpoena’ addressed to Senate President Francis Escudero as president of the impeachment trial court.
On February 5, the House transmitted to the Senate the verified complaint of impeachment signed by 215 representatives against Duterte, which constitutes the Impeachment Articles.
