According to the South Korean Forest Service (KFS), the forest area affected by the fire increased by more than 4,000 hectares overnight Monday, despite firefighting efforts.
With this new data, the fires in Uiseong have so far swept through 12,699 hectares of forest.
The KFS warned that as the wildfire drags on, firefighters’ fatigue is increasing, and one firefighter from Sangju Fire Station already had to be rushed to a hospital after showing symptoms of dizziness and vomiting.
Authorities plan to mobilize 77 helicopters and 3,154 personnel to contain the fire in the county, which has already spread to the neighboring city of Andong.
