China rejects Trump’s coercive measures against Venezuela

Beijing, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) China rejected on Tuesday the measures announced by US President Donald Trump on imposing 25-percent tariffs on those nations that buy Venezuelan oil and gas.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun noted that Washington has long abused illegal unilateral sanctions and the so-called extraterritorial jurisdiction, while interfering grossly in other nations’ internal affairs.

The spokesperson stressed China’s steadfast opposition to these actions and urged the United States to stop interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs.

Guo also called to remove all illegal unilateral sanctions on that country and do more for the peace, stability, and development of that nation and others.

Trump said on Monday that he would impose a 25-percent tariff on all imports from any nation that buys oil or gas from Venezuela, in addition to imposing new tariffs on that country.

The Bolivarian government described the measure as arbitrary, illegal, and desperate, and affirmed, “Far from affecting our determination, it confirms the resounding failure of all sanctions imposed on our country.”
