During the meeting, this nation’s delegation highlighted the stable development of the bilateral relationship thanks to a tradition of mutual respect and reciprocal support.
Wang recalled some milestones of these ties, such as the amicable resolution of Macao -formerly a colony under Portuguese administration-, the celebration of 45 years of diplomatic ties in 2024, and the establishment of the two-nation comprehensive strategic partnership two decades ago.
The Chinese foreign minister expressed, in this context, the desire to further strengthen bilateral ties and promote a strategic partnership of mutual trust between China and Europe in general.
He stated, “Portugal has become a key recipient of Chinese investment. Per capita, it is one of the largest in Europe. The two nations have cooperated in sectors such as energy, finance, and health, facing global challenges such as the financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, highlighted the long history of exchange between the two countries and the good state of the bilateral relations.
The meeting took place amid trade tensions over the tariff wars that both the European bloc and China are facing with the United States.
