China accuses US of global cyberattacks and espionage

Beijing, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of being the main country using supply chains and telecommunications operators to carry out cyberattacks around the world.

Spokesman Guo Jiakun cited a report published by the China Cybersecurity Industry Alliance on espionage activities and cyberattacks by US intelligence agencies against mobile terminals and network operators globally.

The document details how the US government abuses its dominant position in information technology and global supply chains.

According to the report, the United States has carried out large-scale and long-term malicious activities targeting mobile phones and the entire industrial chain in this sector.

Guo expressed Beijing’s serious concerns and criticized the US actions outlined in the document. He added that while Washington accuses others of supply chain security vulnerabilities, especially in the context of 5G, it allows its own large technology companies to install backdoors in communications equipment to facilitate their espionage activities.

“We urge the United States to immediately stop these behaviors, especially the use of global supply chains to carry out malicious cyber activities,” the spokesman said, calling on Washington to take a responsible stance and explain itself to the world.

“The United States is the world’s largest hacking empire and the global cyber thief,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry previously stated.

According to Beijing, the United States maintains a “hypocritical double standard” and is “the world’s largest hacker empire.”
