United Nations Warns of Increased Violence in the DRC

Kinshasa (Prensa Latina) – The UN's OCHA has warned of escalating violence in Ituri province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Increased attacks in the Djugu territory, particularly in Fataki, Drodro, Rethy, and Linga, have forced at least four humanitarian organizations to suspend operations, leaving approximately 300,000 people without essential aid and protection.

OCHA also noted the closure of Fataki General Hospital on March 14 due to clashes, limiting healthcare access for nearly 70,000 displaced people and 100,000 host community members.

Ongoing clashes in North and South Kivu provinces continue to cause displacement and civilian deaths.

Around 100,000 people fled Walikale in North Kivu to Maniema province after the M23 movement occupied the city on March 19. The preceding clashes resulted in dozens of civilian deaths, sexual violence, and attacks on schools and hospitals, according to OCHA.
