A particularly sensitive moment due to the tariff war unleashed by the U.S. president, Donald Trump, and the European need to tuck in and seek alternatives with powers like China, and increase business with the emerging economy of Vietnam.
Sanchez’s tour will be from April 8 to 12, with the first stop in Hanoi, where he will most likely meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính.
It is likely that the meetings will be even more extensive in Vietnam, in an agenda in the process of definition and with the positive precedent of a dialogue between Pham and Sanchez in the framework of the G-20.
As for China, it will be the third visit of the head of the Spanish Executive to China in three years. A meeting is scheduled in Beijing with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, who will clearly address economic and trade issues in the midst of China’s tariff tension with the European Union (EU) and the US.
This issue and the war in Ukraine have already been discussed by Sanchez and Xi in March 2023 and last September.
