The study, led by geneticist Manel Esteller from the Josep Carreras Leukemia Institute and the University of Barcelona, found Branyas’ cells to be biologically 17 years younger, with DNA indicating a strong immune system, heart disease protection, and reduced cancer risk.
Born in 1907 and having lived through major 20th-century events, Branyas remained lucid and active until her final months, challenging typical expectations of cognitive aging.
Her youthful gut microbiome is significant due to the influence of gut microorganisms on inflammation, cognition, and bone/muscle health.
