Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning affirmed, “China consistently believes that the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations serves the common interest of the two nations and an expectation of the international community.”
Daines has shown particular interest in trade and economic issues linked to China.
Public records noted that during his first term as a senator, he agreed 86% with US President Donald Trump’s policy positions.
As a business executive in the 1990s, he worked for six years in mainland China and Hong Kong.
The senator previously stated that he seeks to improve trade relations between the two countries.
Local press reported that Daines also expects to discuss sensitive issues, such as fentanyl control and trade imbalance. Mao Ning underscored that the talks must be based on “equality and mutual respect.”
