Tokyo subway sarin gas terrorist attack remembered in Japan

Tokyo, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina)Tokyo Metro employees and Japanese citizens commemorated the 30th anniversary of the sarin gas subway attack today, remembering the victims of the Aum Shinrikyo sect's act of terror.

On March 20, 1995, the sect released sarin gas on three subway lines during rush hour, killing 14 and injuring approximately 6,300. Relatives, survivors, and commuters laid flowers and prayed at a memorial stand.

Kasumigaseki station staff observed a minute of silence at 8:00 AM, the time of the attack. Thirteen members of the Aum Shinrikyo sect, including leader Asahara Shoko (Matsumoto Chizuo), were sentenced to death and executed in 2018 for the attack. Attendees at the commemoration emphasized the importance of educating younger generations about the incident to ensure it is not forgotten and lessons are learnt.
