Sudanese Army offensive reaches the presidential palace

Khartoum, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) The offensive of the Sudanese Army has already reached the areas surrounding the presidential palace in Khartoum, a facility in the hands of paramilitaries since the beginning of the clashes, local media reported here today.

The clashes began yesterday and continue this Thursday, without a balance yet of the results of the combats, in which eyewitnesses affirm that there are advances of the Army troops, who try to surround the place and prevent the arrival of reinforcements for the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Media outlets such as the Sudan Tribune report the use of armored vehicles and artillery in the fighting, as well as bombing with the use of drones, while UN officials denounce the increase in violence against civilians with summary executions by the RSF.

Since mid-April 2023, this African nation has been plunged into an internal war, after conflicts over power between the head of the army, Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, flared up.

The conflict has already killed more than 24,000 people and is keeping more than 14 million Sudanese out of their homes, in what experts consider to be the world’s largest displacement crisis.

The fighting has also destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and death.
